Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj : LG letter on heatwave meant to demean, not to help Delhi govt
Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has accused the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi, VK Saxena, of attempting to defame the state government by criticizing its response to the prevailing heatwave conditions in the city. The controversy began when Saxena wrote a letter to Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, expressing his concern over the government’s lack of action to protect laborers from the severe heatwave. Saxena alleged that despite the unusual severity of the heatwave, the state government had failed to issue any instructions to protect laborers, and accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his cabinet of lacking “sensitivity” and “seriousness” in their response to the crisis.

However, Bharadwaj has responded to the letter, accusing Saxena of providing “misleading information” and claiming that the true objective of the letter was not to offer constructive suggestions to combat the heatwave, but to humiliate the state government and portray it in a negative light. Bharadwaj has also questioned the timing of the letter, suggesting that it was written with the intention of causing embarrassment to the government, rather than genuinely addressing the issue of the heatwave.
Addressing a press conference, Bharadwaj pointed out that the letter was written on May 27, when half of the summer season had already passed, and questioned the motive behind the LG’s letter. He implied that the LG’s letter was not a genuine attempt to address the heatwave, but rather a sarcastic dig at the government. Bharadwaj’s accusations suggest that the LG’s letter was motivated by a desire to discredit the state government, rather than a genuine concern for the welfare of the people affected by the heatwave.
The controversy highlights the ongoing tensions between the Delhi government and the LG’s office, and raises questions about the role of the LG in the governance of the city. It also underscores the need for effective communication and coordination between different branches of government to address critical issues like the heatwave, rather than engaging in petty political squabbles.
